Walpurgisnacht (witch's night) is a Germanic festival that begins on the last night of April, and lasts until the evening of the 1st of May. On this night, which coincides with the Celtic Beltane, it is traditional to light bonfires, use flying ointments, and hold revels and coven meetings in the open air. The veil between worlds is said to be particularly thin on this night, just as it is on its counterpart, Samhain. We have reached the beginning of summer, a time for abandon, fertility, dancing, and communion with spirits. It's a particularly good time for sex magick and using psychologically potent herbs to transcend "reality" and our own limitations.
